Nurnberg, Germany (8 May 2007) - At the European Coatings Show, Celanese Corporation presented Mowilth® LDM
1852, a vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE) emulsion specifically designed for low-emission semi-gloss paints. This
breakthrough emulsion solves a problem many formulators in Europe have faced for years when trying to
lower emissions, yet maintain the critical balance of gloss properties, scrub resistance and block resistance
in semi-gloss systems. Free of solvent, plasticizer and APEO, Celanese developed this technology to
support the demand for higher performing environmentally-friendly coatings throughout Europe.
According
to Moritz Fichtmueller, marketing manager for paints and coatings at Celanese, the new Mowilith LDM
1852 product is further evidence of the company’s leadership in developing technology for coatings with
better environmental profiles. "Celanese has responded to the growing demand for low emission coatings
with a new vinyl acetate/ethylene technology designed to meet growing demand for reduced environmental
impact," he said. "Mowilith LDM 1852 is ideal for low-emission, solvent-free semi-gloss paints
because its unique core-shell technology allows it to combine the benefit of low minimum film formation
temperature (MFFT) with the benefit of high block resistance and excellent gloss. "
The
use of core-shell technologysomething formulators typically see in acrylic emulsionsis one of the most
innovative traits of the new Mowilith LDM 1852. By incorporating this technology in a VAE emulsion,
Celanese has once again demonstrated its leadership in innovation. Today, no other VAE technology offers
this kind of performance in coatings designed for low emissions and low odor.
Furthermore,
the water-soluble protective colloids in the VAE emulsion improve both the application properties and
the workability of the paint. The enhanced hydroplastification effect made possible with Mowilith LDM
1852 supports excellent colour development, another key property in today’s premium interior decorative
coatings market.
Celanese: the leader in low VOC performance
for paints
Established for more than 10 years as the leading binding
system in low emission and solvent-free paints, Mowilith® VAE emulsions have helped paint producers
develop products that anticipate trends towards reduced emissions and that meet the criteria of various
European ecological labels.
Celanese remains committed to innovative solutions with
the commercial launch of Mowilith LDM 1852 in Europe. Celanese’s technical assistance teams located
throughout Europe and the rest of the world are experienced in putting VAE technology to work to gain
optimal performance and to solve any formulating issue related to architectural coatings. To learn more
