Geneva, Switzerland, 15 April 2008 At INDEX 2008, Celanese Emulsion Polymers addressed the engineered fabrics industry’s continuing
quest for innovation with a range of technologies that support emerging market opportunities in both
nonwovens and paper specialties applications. Highlights included Celanese’s industry expertise, global
footprint and high-performance products in both disposable and durable nonwovens and saturated papers.
Celanese also focused on its market-leading emulsion polymer products such as its Elite Ultra line of
vinyl acetate/ethylene (VAE) emulsions that sets industry standards for strength, softness and functionality
in wide variety of end-use applications including wipes, absorbent hygiene, filters, and the medical
industry.
According to Phil McDivitt, vice president Emulsions, Celanese tracks consumer and end-user trends to anticipate the need for new functionality
and performance, and to develop the technologies that make those a reality. “Today at Celanese Emulsion
Polymers, innovation is at the core of our business,” McDivitt said. “We partner with our customers
to assist them in making a new product a commercial reality. This is where our cutting-edge technology has a chance to make a real difference for our customers,”
he added. Included in the breakthroughs highlighted at INDEX 2008 were solutions for sustainability,
superior softness, strength, ultra-high absorption levels and extremely low emission levels for disposable
nonwovens.
One of the industry’s broadest, deepest product lines
According
to McDivitt, one of Celanese’s strengths in supporting engineered fabrics innovation is its ability
to leverage a diverse set of polymer emulsion chemistries to develop tailored solutions. “We bring a
remarkably broad range of technologies, including vinyl acetate/ ethylene (VAE) emulsions, vinyl acrylic
emulsions, vinyl acetate emulsions and acrylic polymers to create functionality for engineered fabrics,”
he said. “Our emulsions act as the primary fiber binder in nonwovens and paper specialties and also create high-value
functional properties such as softness and high wet strength in wipes, burst resistance in filters,
and water repellency in wall coverings.” Celanese is currently focusing on new high-performance vinyl acetate technology as a breakthrough in
the durables market sector, as well as continuing efforts to create environmentally-friendly products
with super-low emissions, are APE free and have low odor.
Focused
on engineered fabrics
Building on an already strong tradition of innovation
for engineered fabrics, Celanese is leading the emulsion polymers industry in investing for the future.
With a strong base and current investments in manufacturing, technical service, sales and marketing
functions across Europe, North America and Asia, Celanese is well-poised to meet the needs of both global
and regional customers. “Our goal is to develop strong relationships with diverse producers throughout the nonwovens, paper
specialties and textiles industries so that we can fine tune our emulsion polymer technology and better
support our customers’ manufacturing processes and meet their ultimate marketing objectives,” McDivitt said.
“Today, we have one of the industry’s broadest product portfolios and a solutions-development team with
one thought in mind: the future of our customers’ business,” he said. The Emulsion Polymers business unveiled its new slogan which embodies this concept, “Your
future is our focus…worldwide.”
Co-exhibiting with Ticona
For
the first time ever, Celanese Emulsion Polymers co-exhibited with Ticona, the technical polymers business
of Celanese Corporation. While Celanese Emulsions is focused on being the primary binder and functional polymer, Ticona is showcasing
engineering polymers as the starting material for fibers and downstream products including filtration
and processing technology. “Both of our businesses are centered on innovation and technical solutions for customers. It is a natural fit that we should appear together to best assist nonwovens customers with their future
goals,” McDivitt said.
